Course Description
This course provides EMS leaders with a strategic roadmap for navigating the complex web of state and federal regulations, moving beyond basic compliance to build highly reliable, resilient organizations. Participants will explore the critical shift from punitive Quality Assurance (QA) to systemic Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), while evaluating the operational and economic benefits of elite accreditations like CAAS and CAMTS. Ultimately, leaders will learn how to leverage statutory frameworks, federal mandates, and Just Culture principles to protect their patients, providers, and agencies from liability.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Implement Systemic Quality Improvement: Differentiate between retrospective Quality Assurance and systemic Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to conduct effective Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and leverage near-miss data within a psychologically safe culture.
-
Navigate Regulatory Compliance: Manage the intersection of South Carolina state statutes (DPH) and federal mandates—including DEA controlled substance rules, CLIA laboratory requirements, and CMS reporting—to ensure strict agency compliance and mitigate legal risk.
-
Leverage Accreditation Strategy: Evaluate the structural requirements, economic return on investment (ROI), and strategic advantages of obtaining specialized EMS accreditations (such as CAAS or CAMTS) to drive operational excellence and secure municipal contracting competitiveness.
